As I had mentioned in an earlier post I recently attended a seminar given by Debra Betts on acupuncture in pregnacy. She also did a one day semniar on acupressure in pregnancy which I also attended.
Wow, what a useful tool for the support people to learn in order to help with pain relief during pregnancy. Debra has made an excellent booklet which is available to download on her website with diagrams of the acupressure points as well as their uses during labour. Debra has also taught these points to midwives and doulas to be used during birth if there are any complications, some points are used to help with stalled contractions, other points help the baby to descend and others are used to help turn the baby if it is malposiitioned.
I have been giving couples who are coming in for prebirth treatment a copy of this acupressure booklet and asking them to take it home and go over it together. I often have the support person come in for a demonstration of the acupressure points and when to use them. The feedback I am getting from this has been very good.
I will be holding classes soon for couples who would like to learn these simple easy to use acupressure points for pain relief and labour support.
