October 24th is Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine day. At Comox Valley Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic we are hosting a free information session between 1-3:00 pm. This is an opportunity to meet with the practitioners, have a look around the clinic and have your questions answered regarding Chinese medicine. Come down and see how Chinese medicine can improve your life.
I just attended a Chinese medicine course on men’s health with Peter Deadman who is a very well respected Doctor of Chinese medicine from the U.K. It was very informative learning lots of useful information on the treatment of male infertility, chronic pelvic pain syndrome, and benign prostate hypertrophy with Chinese medicine. What surprised me was the amount of men who suffer in silence with these problems.
In my own practice I see many women who are having difficulties getting pregnant, these women may be trying to conceive naturally or with the help of assisted reproductive technology. The diagnosis is not always fully understood for many people and often it may be a male factor or unexplained infertility meaning that it could be a problem or imbalance with one or both partners that is preventing pregnancy but it is often only the woman who is seeking treatment.
Chinese medicine has much to offer the men. There have been numerous studies showing the positive benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine is the improvement of sperm count, motility and morphology. The health of the baby is determined by the overall health of both parents at the time of conception. Dietary changes becoming aware of environmental pollutants that may effect fertility, Chinese herbs, supplements and acupuncture all improve sperm health.I am hoping that more and more men will become open to seeking help and chosing Chinese medicine to help improve their fertility.
